POLICE INTERCEPT JUNK OFF LANTAO 25 WITH 41 ON BOARD

The police intercepted 41 illegal immigrants in a junk off Lantao early yesterday and the master and three crew members were fined

by Mr Hin-shing Lo at Central Magistracy today.

The illegal immigrants were brought in a motor boat from Macao to Adamaster Channel where they were transferred to the junk.

The master of the junk, Chan Bor, 38, was fined $1,000 with the alternative of three months' imprisonment. Lam Ping, 23, was fined $260, Leung San-tai, 36, fined $860, and Chan San, 43, fined $250, all with the aller native of six weeks' imprisonment. Leung had a previous conviction on a different charge.

Sub-Inspector Yeung Po-chi told the Court that the un- licensed sailing junk was intercepted by a police party headed by Marine Police Corporal Li Hing-man off Ngau Ku Wan, Lantao, shortly before 6 a.m. yester day.
