Dick Tiger Wins. British Empire Middleweight Title
MacAteer KO'd In Ninth Liverpool, Mar. 27.
Dick Tiger of Nigeria won the British Empires Middleweight title in sensational style here tonight when he knocked out the holder, Pat MacAteer, in the ninth round.
There was no luck involved in the 28-year-old Nigerian's surprise victory. MacAteer could find no answer for Tiger's plle-driving left hooks, and for three rounds he was subjected to a ceaseless shower of punches to all parts of the body.
In the sixth round, MacAteer received one of the most punishing blows of his career--a ferocious left- hook which left him dazed but still standing.
Another Vicious Hook
From then on the issue was no longer in doubt, and in the ninth round Tiger got through with unother vicious hook to the jaw which put the cham- pion out until a whole minute after the fight.
Tonight's result pai Tiger in the world class of middleweights, so long as he can keep up his present form. Despite his age, it is only during the last few months that he has discovered the powerful left hook which gave him today's victory.---France-Presse.

Madrid.
The bullfight is passing through a period of crisis and change. That it holds its own against the ever increasing popularity of football and other sports is due in part to the hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists who fill the expensive scats at many of the fights.
There were 726 bullfights in 1957 against 743 in 1956, 698 in 1955, and 595 in 1954. So the bullfight as a commercial proposition remains a prosperous national activity.
(2) Sportsmanship on the field of play. Nominations should be addressed to the Editor, China Mail, Wyndham Street.about us.
