British Empire Welter Title Fight Postponed
Waterman's Position Questioned
London, Jan. 30.
The British Empire Weiterweight boxing title fight between the holder, George Barnes of Australia, and Britain's new European Champion, Peler Water- mat has been postponed indefinitely, It was learned here tonight.
The Empire title bout was to have been staged In Sydney in March.
Worthy Opponent?
It was understood that the Australian organi- sers had failed to obtain the financial guarantees that had been promised them, but promoter George Callaghan has also questioned Waterman's position as a worthy opponent for Barnes.
Waterman took the European (tle from the previous hobler, Emilio Marconi of Raly, in London on Tuesday. The referee stopped the fight, because of an injury suffered by Marconi, before the opening of the last round, but Waterman was down for two counts in the 11th wound and was almost knocked out. -France-Presse.

Russia Intends To Take

Russians at Wimbledon. And now, perhaps, Russians in Grand
Prix motor racing. Although they have never before competed in an international motor race, it appears that Russian enginears have caught up with Western motor racing standards in one stride. They have produced a 2,500 cc. Grand Prix racing car in the class of Italy's Ferraris and Maseratis, and Britain's BRMs and Vanwalls. Called the Kharkov Six, it is a fully streamlined car with a six-cylinder engine.
