Talbert evidently has deelded to replace Mulloy in the doubles with Holmberg, 19, or Mackay, 22, if either makes na impres- alve showing in practice matches.
Disappointed
Meanwhile, Herb Flam, bilter- ly disappointed because he was left off the US team for the Challenge Round, went Inlo seclusion. Talbert left Flam off the team when he announced it yesterday. Doctors advised that Flim, who has been jittery and nervous, was in an condition to play.
Harry Hopmen, manager of the Australien team, said Flo's troubles might prove a blessing to the Yanks.

Wave Of Optimism Among
The Enthusiasts As First Test Approaches
By DEREK JOHN
London.
Is this the dawn of a great new era in Australian cricket? A few months ago this question would have scomed absurd. Yet now, as the First Test against South Africa approaches, there is a new wave of optimism among Australian crickot onthusiasts.
They are saying not only that the Aussies will retain their unbeaten record in a series in South Africa, but that they may also humble England's mighty cricketers next year.
Even Ian Johnson, who has bitter experience of England's strength, is very hopeful. Says the former Test captain: “Australian cricket is now on the eve of a boom.”
A
I am particularly pleased to report Davidson's great success tis n bowler. In recent years his record. has suffered because of injury and because of the clo minance of Miller and Lindwali.
Why this sudden change of called "The Clutch" because of heart? How can the Aussies, his brillance in the field, and achieve greatness when they he is a competent, hard-hitting have lost such stars as Keith Eatsman, Miller, Ray Lindwall, Jan John- son, Lindsay Hasselt and Qu Langley?
One reasonE is the success to date of the Australian tour, The Aussies have not been beaten, and, by thrashing a South African XI, they have bettered the record of the MCC In South Africa last year,
Another reason is the great debut made by 22-year-old" Ian Craig as Australian captain, ie has used his bowlers well and notched up several centuries
already.
