Samo 8,000 Spanish soldiers are now firmly entrenched along a tiny coastal strip on either side of Sidi Ifni, capital of the Spanish enclave in southwestern Morocco, which has been under attack since November 23 by the Ait Basmrano tribe, supported by Maroccan irregulars. The Spanish have withdrawn from outposts along the Ifni border, difficult to supply, and both sides now seem to be awaiting an improvement in the weather, or possibly a Spanish- Moroccan diplomatic solution, before further action.
The Spanish have brought in reinforcements from the Canary islands, but two transportą carry- ing respectively 1,500 and 1,800 men had to go back to base earlier this week owing to bad weather and lack of port facilities.
