Oslo, Dec. 11. Mr Lester Pearson, formor Canadian Minister for External Affairs, tonight called for a frank; serious and complete exchanges of viows ospecially be- fween Moscow and Washington through diplomatic and political channels.
Mr Pearson, who yesterday received the diploma and gold medal of the £14,400 1957 Nober
Peace Prize at a ceremony here, made the appeal in a 6,000-word lecture on "The Four Faces of Peace" in the main hall of the university.
In a section devoted to peace and policy he con- tinued: "Essential to the success of any such exchanges is the recognition by the West that there are certain issues such as the unification of Germany and the stabilisation of the Middle East, which are not likely to be settled in any satisfactory way without the participa tion of the U.S.S.R.
"Where that country has Jegitimate security interest in an oven or prablen, that must be taken into account.
"It is also essential that the Soviet Union in s turn, re- come the right of people to choose their own furm of gov- ernment - without interference from outside forces or subver sive dunestle forces encouraged and assisted from outside.”
