DŁAGGAIL HOINE,

They Mourned The Death

Of King Harold

In the conservative Sydney Morning Herald" last werk, in the "On Active Service" section, an Rivertisement appeared commemorating the death of King Harold at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The advertisement read: "Godwinson Harold, King near Hastings of England, killed in netion October 14. 1066. Mourned by Godwinson, Edmund, Magnus and Ulf. Godwinson, Edmund, Magnus and Ulf were four of Harold's sons."

Many callers rang the Herald office protesting about the inclusion of the advertisement, while hundreds of others were just curious as to how it had originated.

The advertisement was authorised by Mr Sellars, a bright schoolteacher from the Sydney suburb of Hurstville, who was a lieutenant-colonel in the second AIF.

Mr Sellars said that he and two friends decided to insert the advertisement because "King Harold's death is something all people of Saxon descent should remember."
