THREE YEARS
ON DRUG CHARGE
Found guilty of dealing in opium and possession
of 19 pounds 91⁄2 ounces of raw oplum, Mohammed Hussain, 34-year-old Pakistani, was sentenced to 'three years' hard labour plus a fine of $10,000 or another 12 months by Kowloon District Judge R. H. Milla-Owen this morning.
A plecegoods merchant living at 10 Granville Road, third floor, Hussain was arrested on August 16 after he had moved a leather case and bag from a hotel to his room. The Poller found that this luggage contained raw opium.
In sentencing the man, Judge Mills-Owens said that be had no doubt that the accused personally moved the opium from the hotel to his room, and there dealt with it in the manner described by the prosecution.
The evidence of the Police witness was clear and convincing and a marked contrast to the evidence of the defence, particularly that of the accused, whe was a vague witness, the Judge said.
