ARMY SPORTS

PARADE

The long overdue spotlight at last swings out to Kowloon Tsai to feature that 'big' small unit, & Composite Ordnance Depot, commanded by Lieut-Colonel St. G. J. S. Moore, RAOC.

It has long been a pet theory of mine that the abilities and success of any unit depend on the interest and enthusiasm of the Commanding Officer, whether it be at sport or their technical duties, and this theory is fully vindicated in this instance.

Jrt

Not only does the Command- Ing Officer take the keenest personal Interest all unil sporting matters. He is also a valuable team member in the Depot's most successful sporting nctivity, rifte shooting, both rmall bore and 303, and frequently credited with 'possibles', and has on average In the high nineties,

Hockey Sceretury Major Ted Hutson mus noj be forgotten in this re- view for not only does he control the activities of Service hockey most cfficiently but he s}} wields very pretty hockey stick, and, still playing in the unit side, he has on occassions stepped into the breach when the Auny team have been short- honded and has more than held his own.

Last season ended with the team going to Singapore, where they won nine of the 13 trophies available, and emassed the fantastic total of 74 team and individual prizes.

LOST BY INCHES

The two previous seasons had scen the unit well on top in the athletic world and this year

they went into the Garrison Championships confident of making it a third success, and I mus, admit that the hard work put in by Captain Don Gunn in getting the unit out for training made this highly probable,

AMAZING AVERAGE This is well in line with his local handling of a gun, finished up last year with average of 99.09 for 22 matches, which means that he dropped less than one point cach match, and so for this seasoni he has had seven possibles in eight matches and seems determined to improve even on this amazing Uverage.

To the surprise of the shool- ing fraternity he was rother overshadowed by ASM Pat Stanbury in the Colony and Inter-Services Championships, but feel sure he will gain his revenge next January.
