Cloth Orders Until September
AMERICAN SALES POLICY
GAVE THE FILLIP
by A China Mail Reporter
Hongkong cotton mills are doing good business.
Most
mills have cloth orders booked up to September and October -some are booked up even farther ahead and yarn orders are booked to the end of July.
This was learned reliably this morning.
The buoyant state of the industry is reflected in Stock Exchange quotations for cotton issues.
"In-most
A cotton authority told the China Mall: parts of the world the textile industry is extremely busy -there is practically n small boom.”
Ilongkong was sharing in this activity, he said. This was a marked change compared with business activity in the early part of last year when, the cotton authority said, "we were driven to find orders."
Commenting on last year's slack perled the cotton authority said: "It depended largely on the selling policy of colton the United States. Untul texte con- cerns in all parts of the world had something stable to work on with American collon policy there was # general hold-up. Nobody would buy or sell.
RN Surgeon Wins $1,275 Claim
A Royal Navy sur geon, who alleged that a Hi-fi-tape recorder he bought from a Hong- kong company was not up to specifications agreed upon, this morn- ing won his suit for damages against the dealer.
Judge James Wicks at tho Victoria District Court awarded judgment, with costs, to Surgeon- Cmdr Ronald Tipple, RN. in the
sum of $1,275-the amount paid by plaintiff for the recording machine.
The defendants were Yee On Hong Co., Ltd. of Fu House. They were ropresented by Mr J. C. Wilman, of Johnson, Stokes and Master.
Mr M. E. Ives, of Peter Mo and Co., represented the plaintiff. CLIMATIC FAULTS
Sitting with Judge Wicks as assessors were two technical experta, Flight Lleut Michael O'llagan, RAF, and Mr Yui-kwong Luk.
The defendanis were also ordered to pay the assessors' remuneration. Surgeon-Cmdr Tipple claimed "dumages for alleged breach of con- dillons of sale. He said at an earlier hearing that he bought a hi-fi recorder, which he later found to be unsuitable for reproducing records of a high quality.
The sound equipment. compagy contended that the climatic faults of the machine had been explained to the plaintiff and that he must have bought the recorder with that knowledge.'

"Suddenly they came out with a new sales policy and that changed the whole situation.”
FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Other factors behind the up- swing in business were political and economic questions, the cotton authority said.
It is largely a question of consuming
countries having sufficiens foreign exchange to incet orders. When they haven't got it hey out on crickva regulations and that makes it difficult.
