A RACE TO REMEMBER
TRAGEDY AT EPSOM AND AN UNPOPULAR DECISION
By- PERCY RUDD
Tragedy stulked across Epsom Downs on June 4, 1913. A woman mortally injured; the King's horse brought down and his jockey wounded and unconscious; the Derby winner disqualified after the "All right" sigmal has been hoisted, on an objectiun Mdged by the stewards; and the race awarded to a 100-1 chance. All these events combined to make an astonishing and unforgetable race.
The woman, Miss Emily Davidson, a militant suffragette, was the first to Intrude on the normal course of the race. She went under the rails into the midst of the galloping horses as they turned round Tattenham Corner into the straight.

Tomorrow's Chances At The Valley
By "RAPIER”
It's Derby Day tomorrow. The Blue Riband Classic of the local turf, the Hongkong Derby, a race over one and one half miles for this year's Subscription ponies, will, be run at 3.30 p.m. On the Derby hinges a fortune, the fortunate winner of which will be the person who holds the ticket which draws the winning pony, as there is a mammoth Cash Sweep in the race.
The Hongkong Derby will be but one of 10 events in to- morrow's programme.
The First Saddling Bell will be rung at 1.30 pm, with the Arst race starting at 2,00 p.n. sharp.
Here are my estimates of the
