in a temperature 18 degrees below zero 24-year-old Al Poutanen, of Sud- bury, Ontario, leaps 93 feet to win the Ski Jumping Championship at Huntsville, Ontario, Canada, Al, who thought his skiing days were over when he injured his leg playing football in 1953, also won the Nordic Combined Championship (jumping and cross country) at the Huntsville meet, which is the first major event of the Ontario ski season.
Al's jump of 93 feet, compared with the Huntsville record of 101 feet, was considered remarkable under the conditions because the intense cold made jump- ing more difficult,
