The manager of Cherif Hamia, European Feather- weight Boxing Champion, has written to the world box authorities, asking that Hamia be officially recognised as the World Featherweight Champion.

Everyone Has Been Trying To Honour Britain's Returned Heroes

Says ARCHIE QUICK

Four social functions in a week have been the gastro- Romic reward of the returned heroes from the Melbourne Olympics. Everyone has been bending backwards trying athletes, the swimmers, the boxers, and there looms ahead of them much more food and drink being prepared for them by a number of organisations.

The Variety Club of Great Britain started the week with a luncheon at the plush Savoy Hotel. The sporting field, spanned by Stanley Matthews and Lon Harvey to Henry Cotton and Paavo Nurmi, was there en bloc. The caravanserai camped down for 24 hours, and then there was the "Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year" Party and the consequent awards.
