sign, insurance, programme, re- ception of dignitaries, volunteer participation and organisation of the parade.
One of the first major tasks was to clear starlings from their haunts on buildings
and trees along the route which President Elsenhower will travel from the White House to Congress.
The estimated four million starlings of Washington not only render unspotted passage along this route a hazardous affair, but leave their roots and the area below them in unsightly condi-
jon.
So thousands of gallons of a liquid called "Roost No More," claimed by its manufacturers to have an odour Henalve to starlings but undetectable to human beings, has been sprayed along the route.
Like other starling colonies in the United States, that of Wash- ington is descended from 120 European starlings brought by a German Immigrant, Eugene because he wanted all the birds Schieffelin, to New York in 1090
mentioned by Shakespeare to live in the United States. One unusual aspect ar.

Again the oath will be ad- ministered by Chief Justice Warren.

American women, and social columns have been filled rumours and denials of rumoure on the subject.
Another fashion mystery sun. rounds Me Elsenhower's cholen of hat. In 1953, male guests had suddenly switched from a tradi- tional high silk hat to homburge when the President changed his mind at the last minute.
The Inaugural committeo hopes to avoid unfortunate in- cidents which marked previous inaugurations. For example, the Housing Sub-Committee chair- man, Mr A. B.. Hermans, haw booked accommodation for over 7,000 official visitors.
