WORLD CLASS PLAYERS WE IIAVE-BUT WORLD CLASS GUIDANCE IS LACKING
Says
This is the brief
I. M. MacTAVISH
but sad · story of a magnificent racing car. It was a machine of great potential. During its early trials It turned in out- standing performances it set up new records when put to vital com- petitive tests. The world was at its wheels so to speak but so great was the clamour for its public appearance, and so self-centred and all- grabbing was the policy of its owner, it was never given a rest.
It was denied the essential servicing every machine requires and soon its performances began to deteriorate. The 'zip' that had once taken it into the lead disappeared; the staying power that had so often kept it out in front faded with each successive outing.... and soon it was reduced to the level of a very ordinary car.
The calls for its services began to dwindle: the brillance of its earlier achievements and IL, acclaimed potential were MOUŽI forgotten: it became first of all a subject for criticism and later
forgotten hulk.
It's a sad story and no doubt you wonder just where 11 con- necia with the Saturday Soccer Sp. It has as I hope to show-- a great dent to do with soccET... In fact it is a story with a moral.

Untried Wardrop Gets Place In Britain's Swim
Team For Games
By PAT BESFORD
Everyone, and I mean everyone, should be happy about the Olympic swim- ming team, announced on September 9 at the end of the ASA Championships at Blackpool. Jack Wardrop is back! The selectors wisely decided to cut red tape and pick world-record holder Juck, due home from America soon, without trial.
Seventeen swimmers, five divers, and a water-polo team are going. As anxious hopefuls, mothers, friends, and relations waited for the officia! amouncement the other morning, the question was: "Will Wardrop be in?"
His team-mates wanted him. 1 As Ken Williams from Aston tehosen for the 100 metres and relay) aid; "If we've go: Jack behind us, well, we'll just have to go to back him up."
