Plate 1: The Title of the Sian Tablet. The Christian cross is prominently displayed above the title of the inscription. Adam's new term for Christianity, "Syrian Brilliant Teaching" (Ta-ch'in ching chiao), is at the title's head. The variant form of the character ching, "brilliant", can be clearly seen.
