From Sokolovsky
Washington, May 24.
The Soviet Government has invited two or three high ranking American officers to Russia to take part in ceremonies marking Soviet Aviation Day on June 24, it was officially announced today.
The Soviet invitation was extended by Marshal Sokolovsky, Soviet Chief-of-Staff of the armed forces.
It was delivered to General Nathan Twining, U.S. Air Force Chief-of-Staff, by the military attache of the Soviet Embassy in Washington on May 21.
Authoritative American circles indicated that the Soviet invitation might be the first step toward a broader invitation which would be ex- tended to the Chiefs-of-Staff of the US. Armed Forces.
What Does It Mean?
A White, House spokesman indicated earlier today he would not be surprised if the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff accepted such an invitation.
However, no invitation had yet been sent to them. Authoritative sources considered also that the Soviet of the Soviet Government to proceed with an exchange of visits
