AUSTRIAN CHILDREN'S VILLAGE THESE

BOUT 150 orphans are living in their own village of gay-painted Tyrolean chalola in Imst, Austria-and they owe it all to the idea of one man,

He is Hermann Gmeiner, a 35-year-old Austrian who fought in Russia £19 ELS1 officer in the German Army.

Every child should have a mother and brothers and sisters, he decided, They should have a colony of little houses of

their own.

Now, in the children's village above Imst there aru 15 chalets. In each chalet is a foster mother and nine children. The foster mothers are paid 17 a month and recrived 13 a month housekeeping m<ITIV*) for each member of their "family." The children are of all ages, so they have the impression of growing up in a real family.

The foster mothers feed the children their own way. The children regard the chalets as home.
