Now The Doc May Lose Party Leadership

FROM H. KING WOOD

Sydney, Dec. 13.

The fate of Dr Evatt, Leader of the Opposition and of the Federal Parliamentary Labour Party will have been decided by the time you read this, but at the moment the spotlight of Australia is focussed on a small white building in suburban Kogarah where electoral officers are counting votes which, finally, could put him out of Parliament.

Win or lose, however, a showdown over the Labour leadership is certain. Three times now he has led his Party at the polls and each time he has been defeated-this time in a shattering fashion.

Privately, a lot of Labour mon see a happy way out of a problem should he lose his Harton seat. Then another leader would have to be elected without the thought of conflicting loyalties should the Doc scrap home and again be a candidate for Party office.
