The great Sir Gordon Richards, sitting in his office at Beckhampton. has been making up his accounts. For Saturday, with the finish of the flat rucing season, saw the end of his first year as a trainer.
How does he feel about the transition from £20,000 a year as the world's top jockey to the modest rewards of a trainer whose 19 winners to date have collected only £3.553 in prize money of which Sir Gordon's normal share would be no more than ten per cent, or £335!
