Commons Debate On Burgess And Maclean Case
HOUSE TOLD: NEVER AGAIN
Eden Asks MPs To Examine New Security Measures
'OUR STANDARDS NOW THE VERY HIGHEST
London, Nov. 7.
The Prime Minister, Sir Anthony Eden, tonight proposed the estab lishment of a small parliamentary group to study security procedures in the Public Service and consider whether any further precautions could be taken to reduce the risk of treachery.
He was replying to a debate on the missing diplomats, Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean, who fled across the English Channel in May 1951, and are now said to be working for Russian policymakers in Moscow.
Sir Anthony Eden said the group should be a small one of Privy Councillors from both sides of the House - men who advise the sovereign
on constitutional matters.
