Formosa: Eden & Menon

Agree On

Mediation

London, June 6:

The Indian roving ambassador, Mr V. K. Krishna Menon, and the Prime Minister, Sir Anthony Eden, were reported to have agreed today to press mediation efforts for a negotiated solution of the Formosa conflict.

Mr Menon conferred today with Sir Anthony at 10 Downing Street, for the second time since his arrival on Friday from 11 days of "helpful" talks with the Red Chinese premier, Chou En-lai, in Peking.

Sir Anthony and Mr Menon feel that tension in the Formosan Straits has lessened in recent weeks, but a further relaxation would facilitate full negotia tion on a Formosa solution, informed diplomats said.
