YOUNG FOR WIMBLEDON

KRISHNAN CREATES BIGGEST SURPRISE BY BEATING WIMBLEDON CHAMPION

London, June 2.

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, surprises of the British Lawn Tennis season was caused today when Ramanathan Krishnan, the young Indian number one, beat Jaroslav Drobny, the holder of the Wimbledon title, in straight sets in the quarter-finals of the Northern Tennis tourna- ment at Manchester.

The 18-year-old Indian beat the former Czech Davis Cup player, now playing under Egypt's colours, by 7-5 and 6-4.

I was Krishnan's best victory title, but he had played of his career. Drobny had only matches on the grass courts arrived from Berlin two days therefore had no time to age where he won the Singles used to the surface.

Krishnan appeared to Drobny's measures from the start and he said afterwards that after taking the" first set, he realised he had

of winning.

The Wimbleder Champion never hit the ball well but that should not detract from Krishnan's Ane performasce. The Indian Champion was

by his 6-3, 5-7 and 8-2 defeat at the hands of the giant Ameri can, one of the globe-trotting campaigners.
