Damage To Lighters Claim: Defence Case
The Defence version of what they said occurred in a bay of Kow- loon Wharves when one of their lighters broke adrift during a typhoon early on the morning of September 2, 1953, was given by Mr John Mc- Neill, QC, before Mr Justice J. R. Gregg at the Supreme Court this morning, when he continued his opening in the claim for damages brought by the Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Co., Ltd, against Wang Kee and Co., stevedores and merchants.
Plaintiffs are claiming damages totalling $70,533.15 from defendants arising from the sinking of four of their lighters and damage to three others during the typhoon of September 2, 1953. Plaintiffs alleged negli- gence on the part of defendants whereby lighters belonging to defendants were adrift and bore down and collided with plaintiffs' lighters.
