1955 LOOKS AN EVEN MORE PROMISING YEAR IN EMPIRE ATHLETICS
By “RECORDER”
The first. four months of 1955 have produced more outstanding athletic marks all over the British Commonwealth and Empire than the corresponding first four in any other year and, despite the retirement of many outstanding athletes, such as Roger Bannister and John Landy it. seems that standards are still on the upward trend!.
The Mile bras already produced five men under 4 martes 10 seconds with Australian.Don Macmillan lending at 4:05.8. A notable feature of the early months. of 1955 has been the continuing rising standard · in Australlum› middle and long, diss. Lance running, an:improving South African standard in the runs from 880 Yards up. and an appreciable rise in standards in the High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Javelin Throw.
Nigeria is now beginning to turn out good long jumpers in quantky and the Empire record in the High Jump has changed hands between two Nigerians "Julius: Chigbolu at & fect 84%
