Ray Hurford, Most Prolific Prize-Winner In Colony Cycling Championships
„By “NTACA”
Thick-set, muscular Ray Hurford of the REME CC, is the most prolific prize-winner in Colony cycling. To catalogue his wins in major events would take up far too much space, but some indication of his ability can be gained from a brief tally.
Winner of the "SCMP" Best All-Rounder Time Trial Cup In the 1953/4 season; winner of the NTACA Massed Start Championship, the REME Cycling Championship and the “LORD''Best All-Rounder Mussed Start Shield in both 1953/4 and 1954/5; First in 12 Massed Start and Sixth in Time Trials, with places in 14 others; one time holder of Colony Records at 50 miles and New Territories Road Circuit. Quite an imposing list for a man who had never taken part in first-class competition before coming to Hongkong in December 1959.
He started riding a cycle with the Nottingham Sphere CC in 1951, and took part in a few time trials at the shorter dis- tance, without a great deal of success, The Army. Interfered with his cycling until he joined the REME CC

It was George III who said "Six hours' sleep for a man, seven for a woman and eight for a fool." Notoriously, his opinion on any subject was not worth having, yet we still hear this idiotic saying repeated as if it contained such wisdom.
For the average, healthy, active man, eight hours of sleep is not too much, but there are people who seem to be able to do with less: it is purely an individumi question,
les can be written. One very well-reasoned letter of summed up the concensus opinion on the lack of a Track in the Colony. The writer usks how we can expect the powers that be to go to the trouble of building a suitable track, when few riders can go to the few trouble of riding in the events which are promoted.
It is true that such events as the put on, by have been HKAAA, REME, etc., have been badly supported, Surely we must first show our own keenness and willingness to participate, before "wa_ein expect others to take an Interest.
· Rèmember that the full-scale Cyclo
cle Meeling organised by thes NTACA had to be cancelled for lack of entrants, not an inspir- ing fact for the would-be build- er of a Track to contemplate. Do not forget the meeting on March-26 and 27.
And now to the question for this week, From the point of view of a club, which is, the an Individual more important, or a Team victory? And why?
