-154-Foot Discus Throw

India's giant discus thrower, Parduman Singh, the Asian Games Champion, has finally beaten the Asian record in the event held since 1910 by Japan's Eijin Miyagi. In the Indian Army Southern Command Championships at Calcutta January 28, Parduman reached 154 feet 5 inches (47.06 metres) as against Miyagi's 151 feet 61⁄2 inches at Dalay (Dairen) on May 19, 1940.

Another Indian record went at the same Championships as Bhoudwe reached 198 feet 8 inches (60,55 metres) in the Javelin Throw to beat Govind Ram's 198 feet 1 inch sot rise at Culeutta on December 19 last year.

WAYNE CAN STAR IN HIS OWN MOVIES IF THE EMERGENCY ARISES

By MICHAEL RUDDY

John Wayne, partner with R. Fellows in Batjac Productions, has a decided advantage over other movie producers in Hollywood. In an emergency, he can star in his own movies. This he's doing now in "Blood Alley," which became a sanguinary mess, according to Wayne, when Robert Mitchum disagreed with director William Wellman, the wrong man to disagree with at any time, became obstreperous, and was sacked by Mr Fellows.

With a $2,500,000 production altting expensively in San Francisco, Batjac desperately tried to get Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck, Fred MacMurray, Clark Gable, Robert Ryan or Cornel Wilde to replace Mitchum whose horseplay had die rupted filming.
