GENERAL COLLINS CONFIDENT

Washington, Jan. 31.

The United States has agreed to equip, train and support a South Vietnam army of about 150,000 men, it was reported to- day,

This figure is somewhat higher than carlier estimates, which had been that the South Vietnam forces would number little more than 100,000 men when scaled down from the pre- sent 217,000.

However, the 150,000 figure is anid to have been MORE HONEST agreed upon at the earnest request of South Vietnam's Premier, Mr Ngo Dinh Diem, who is winning in. creasing respect and confidence of American officials.
