CLUB RAN INTO AN ARMY SIDE THAT WAS RIGHT IN THE MOOD

By I. M. MacTAVISH

Saturday at Sookunpoo was an unfortunate experience for Club. They were forced to take the field without such stalwarts as Gardner, Paton and Falconer and then ran into an Army side that was right in the mod.

The newcomers to the Club side-Davies, Habbs and Newman-never came up to expectations and the speed of the Army wings lore great holes in the Blue and White defence although MacDonald in his enthusiasm contributed some- thing to this state of affairs by wandering too far up field. This threw a lot of work un Bishop and long before the end he was Bying the distress signal.

By "RECORDER”

Another Colony record--that for the 1,500 Metres run-fell to Lt. Kélth Burch of the Essex Regiment at the HKAAA Open Meeting at the South China AA Stadium, Caroline Hill, yesterday.

Lt. Burch posted new figures of 4 minutes 13.7 seconds in a run all on his own after the half-way mark on a bone-hard track and against a biting cold wind most of the way. The old mark of 4:17.0 had been set by Derek Coburn on Kal Tak's fast grass track on a warm May day in 1952.
