HUDDERSFIELD v. CHARLTON

RECORD-BREAKING LIKELY AT SUNDAY MEETING AT CAROLINE HILL

By "RECORDER”

At least one Colony record is likely to fall at the first major athletic meeting of the season, the HKAAA Open, at Caroline Hill this Sunday afternoon. It is not unlikely that there will be more than one.

Though Lt Keith Burch of the Essex Regiment, who recently brought down the Colony figures in the One Mile Run to 4:32.1, is entered for both the 800 and 1,500 Metres, it is not known which distance he will concentrate on.

Massed Start Cycle Racing Is Essentially A Team Sport

Says "N'TACA”

Massed Start Cycle Racing is essentially a team sport, and it is on this score that I have in the past frequently criticised the riding of the majority of the teams in the Colony. It is not the team spirit that is lacking so much as a knowledge of how a team may work together for victory, and I have often seen a weak TEAM bent a potentially stronger group of Individuals because they were, able to exploit the weaknesses they had discovered in their opponents', methods of riding.

What are the aims of, a team in a Massed Start Race? Surely, first to get their best man into a position where he stands the greatest chance of winning, and secondly to place the remainder of the team in such high positions that they can grab the Team award,

STILL A LONG ROAD TO TRUDGE

L

By ARCHIE QUICK

Pegasus Football Club have concluded their fifth successive Christmas....tour. This time it was to Poole, Worthing and, Brighton., Previously it has been to Corn- wall, Switzerland, the Channel Islands and the Far East.

Behind that statement lies the earnest endeavour by a small band of ex-University Soccer enthusiasts to raise the standard of football in the public schools and Oxford and Cambridge Universities to the high level it attained in the great days of the Corinthians.

There is still a long road to trudge to achieve that ideal, but at least Pegasus have already won the Amateur Cup twice in the six years of their existence.
