"The world output of natural rubber in 1954 is expected to exceed consumption by only 35,000 tons, a surplus which is believed to have been entirely absorbed in the United Kingdom and United States stockpiles," this newspaper pointed out.
The market has been sensitive to small changes in the balance of supply and demand, This is scarcely a matter for murprise.
DEPLETED STOCKS
**The dock strike demon- strated how far consumers had allowed their stocks to be depleted.
"The high output of vehleles in Europe and the strong re- covery of the U.S. motor indus ury not only news increased consumptio but H tius also meant a need to build up work- ing stocks.

Yugoslav Legal Profession
Under Attack
1.
Belgrade, Jan. 9.
The legal profession is under attack by Yugoslav Communists for being a refuge of reactionaries and hostile clements.
Lawyers, like domestic servants, belong to one of the few occupations in Yugoslavia which continue to function on a private basis very much as they did in prewar capitalist days, remaining outside direct Communist influence.
But lawers are needed as much as ever. business enterprises engage in legal actiona

The Communist newspaper, Borba, attacked the Belgrade lawyers for "resetionary con- ceptions and openly hostile activily by Inviduals."
Lawyers were trying to set themselves up as a body above and apart from society, it said, while some were intriguing to spilt the Chamber according to old pre-war political groupings. These intrigues resulted in the meeting ending in confusion.
One diMculty facing the Com- munist, nuthorities, should they wish to purge the ranks of lawyers, is a serious shortage of trained legal personnel throughout the country. There are not enough "progressive" lawyers and judges for the number of jobs to be filed.

In Mr Rankovic's view, majority of Judges were men of this type. But, as he told Lawyura Congress, too many lawyers are occupying dasy joba Es legal consultants in towns Instead of going out into the countryside and gain- ing experience,
