London, Oct. 17. Chasing enthusiasts noted with great approval an announcement in this week's Racing Calendar that, as from January 1, a horse disqualified from first place in a steeplechase or hurdle ovent need no longer automatically be eliminated from the first three.
The National Hunt Committee announcement says that after the New Year a horse may be disqualified altogether or relegated to second or third place. If the horse is placed second or third, then the each-way backers of the horse will retrieve something of their losses. Hitherto they lost the lot.
In future, if the Stewards are sollshed 1st Interference accidental they may at their dis- cretion alter the placings of the Arst four horses.
