GOLD MEDALS FOR THE MARATHON RACE AT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Berne, Aug. 26.
Veikko Karvonen of Finland was officially declared winner of the Marathon race in the European Athletic Championships here early today but the Russian competitor, Filin, who took the wrong turning after leading the field into the stadium will also be awarded a Gold Medal.
The official verdict was not known for several hours after the race ended because of the dispute arising out of the mix-up when leading runners reached the Neufeld Stadium.

CLUBS WILL NOT RISK INJURIES
Floodlit football is not going to be such a money-spinner at any rate for the smaller clubs-in the coming seasons. Some of the clubs are having difficulty in securing fixtures. Other members of the League, who voted against extra pay for players appearing in floodlight football, did them a bad turn.
In their search for opponents at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace, one of the first clubs in the Third Division to install lights, sent round a circular.
