From The Ruins
President Einaudi of Italy. | last week visited Cassino, scene of bitter fighting in the winter of 1943-44, on the 10th tha town's anniversary of déstruction. He opened the new town hall and post office in a ceremony symbolical of the town's recovery.
After the ceremony the bless- ing was given by the Abbot of Monte Cassino, where, the work réstóring *: the hériskied monastery is still in progress.
Though the Benedictine Abbey" is: 1,400 7ears old, the buildings- destroyed in 1944 "dated * only from the 18th century.
Monks have now reassembled fragments of sculpture found in the rubble, and art treasures mid records have been, brought back to the monastéry, from Rome, where they were sent for safe keeping --
