Although the World Cup competition will not be played in Swit- zerland until next June, England, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Hungary and Austria have already qualified for the competition proper by winning their qualifying groups and Switzerland and Uruguay are through as hosts and holders respectively. France is virtually certain to qualify, while Germany leads her group at the halfway stage.
The final 16 countries will be arranged in four groups, and the winners of. each will be the semi-finalists. Thus each country will play at least three matches in Switzerland with the Final at Berne. The other centres will be Basle, Zurich, Geneva, Lausinne and Tessin.
