MOTOR RALLY

The Artists Look

At Soccer

By PETER LOVEGROVE

The scene is a football stadium. A stand in the background ap- pears to be well filled. A match is evidently in progress, for in a goal- mouth three ungraceful, nudo figures are leaping for the ball. None of the three has any toes. A large tree is growing in the middle of the pitch, and around it are a dog and two reclining outsize women, the latter fortun- ately draped. They do not show much interest in the progress of this un- conventional game, but one of them is consulting a pools coupon.

What do you think all this Alapdoodle is? A Chelsea supporter's nightmare? Belleve it or not, it's the largest painting on show in the "Football and the Fine Arts" exhibition sponsored by the Football Association on the occasion of its 90th an niversary-one of the 159 exhibits accepted out of over 1,700 entries submitted,

Fewer Negroes Are Taking Up Boxing

New York, Nov, 20.

Since Joe Louis hit the top in 1937, the Negro race has been the lifeblood of boxing, but today fewer and fower Negroes are entering the ring a trend which may in time cause all boxing to die.
