experienced bridge player is familiar with the hold-up play. You simply refuse to take your winning card in u sult at your first opportunity. The idea is to take your trick at much a time as to exhaust one of the opponents of cards in that Bull.
The hold-up is a fine play, but even the best play in the world canbo overused. In today's hand, South picked the wrong time to try a hold-up.
West opened the queen of hearts, preferring the solidity of that suit to the length of the clubs. It was close choice, but most experts would prob- ably agree with West's actual decision.
