MALAYANS START WELL IN THEIR BID TO RETAIN THE GUTIERREZ SHIELD

By "TOUCHER"

Out to retain the Gutierrez Shield for the third successive year, the Malayan rink went through their preliminary round yesterday with a comfortable 21-12 win over Switzerland and thus qualified to meet Por- tugal in the next round on Sunday.

Playing only 18 heads by mutual agreement, both rinks put up a fairly high standard of bowls considering the heavy state of the green. Both teams were ex- cellently served by their lenda and No. 2's.
