Carnoustie, July 10.

Two British professionals, little Dai Rees, of Wales, and Eric Brown, of Scotland, repelled the powerful oversens challenge in the British Open Golf Championship here yesterday to share the lead at the half-way stage.

Rain And Thunderstorms Disrupt The County Cricket Programme

London, July 9,

Rain and thunderstorms disrupted the county cricket programme today and no play was possible at Shefeld in the match between Yorkshire and Gloucestershire,

Although several matches were badly affected, the weather was kinder at Worthing, where Sussex beat Hampshire by an innings and 20 runs to join Glamorgan in second place in the County Championship table with 92 points-18 behind the leaders, Middlesex.

Sussex never lost their grip on the game and their accurate bowling and high class delding were superb on a difficult pitch.

Inn Thomson, 24-year-old right arm fast-medium bowler who was awarded his county cap during the day. took five Hampshire wickets ni a cost of just over five runs each for the best performance of hla career.

This Coronation Year is notable for the revival and popularisation of pólo, one of the fastest games in the world, which is now becoming as much part of the English summer scene as cricket on the village green.
