Nottingham, June 16.

After the first three days of dramatic cricket, with fortunes fluc- tuating rapidly, the first Test between England and Australia petered out into a tame draw.

It was an anti-climax to the earlier thrills as England plodded placidly to 120 for one wicket on a rain-sodden pitch.

England, who lost the Ashes to Australia in 1931 and have not beaten them in Test at home since 1938, can justifiably feel that the rain robbed them of a victorious start to the present series..

Surrey Lead Middlesex By Two Points In The County Championship Table

London, June 16.

Rain severely restricted the County cricket programme which ended today, but Surrey managed to beat Kent by an innings and took the lead in the Championship table.

The Surrey httack, depleted by the absence of Alec Bedser, on Test Buty, and Tony Lock, injured, gave a good all-round performance on a rain-assected pitch which took the reigning County Champions to 68 points-two more than Middlesex who had earlier beaten Worcestershire by seven wickets,

These Women Cricketers Are Preparing To Play Before The Queen

Two teams of cricketing, women civil servants are to play before the Queen. It will be the first time that women have played before a reigning British sovereign.

The Queen has accepted the invitation of the Civil Service Sporia Council to attend their Coronation sports meeting at Chiswick on July 25. So Miss Grace Morgan, former Enziana player and captain of the Civil Service representative team is busy finding a second eleven.

Applications are already coming in from women players, and Miss Morgan, who works in the Ministry of National Insurance, expects to have no difficulty in her role of a one- woman selection committee.

Interest taken in cricket by women civil servants has been increasing since the war and there are two ex-county players In the side-one from Middlesex and one from Surrey.

TOURED AUSTRALIA

Miss Morgan toured Australia twice for England, in the 1934-5 and 1948-9 seasons. She was also selected for the 1989 test which was cancelled because of the
