THANKSGIVING SERVICE AT
CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL
BA
The Catholic Cathedral was packed this morning for the solemn thanksgiving service at which His Excellency, Mgr Lawrence Bianchi, Catholic Bishop of Hongkong officiated.
The service opened with G. Meyerbeer's "Coronation March", played by Miss Elisa Chan on the organ. The Cathedral choir then sang Caleb Simper's "Break forth into Joy", after which the Rev. Fr Joseph Gardner, SCF, gave a sermon.
During the solemn Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament, given by Mgr L. Blanchi, the age-old Latin hymns in "O Salutaris", "Te Deum", and the "Tantum Ergo" were sung by the clergy and the choir. The service closed on the notes of "God Save the Queen", in which the whole congregation joined.
