THE DAY FOR MCC
London, May 19.
A stubborn innings of three hours 40 minutes for 64 not out by Trevor Bailey, Essex and England-all-rounder, thwarted the efforts of the Australians to force a win over the MCC today at Lord's.
Probably the loss of a whole day on Saturday helped to spoll the Australians' winning sequence in the past fortnight but Bailey and Denla Compton, who scored 45, demonstrated that the hitherto devastating Australian bowling could be played.
MCC, out for 80 in their first inclings,
and scored 190 left the Australians to get 98 in about half an hour to win. They were 13 for two when the match was left drawn.
