Mr Havelock said the recent appointment of Major-General Hinde as chief co-ordinator of Government measures against the terrorists

Europem leaders said that they were in full #greement with the views of General Sir John Harding, Britain's Chief of the Imperial General Staff, who hau em- phasised on his recent visit the need for complete co-ordination and co-operation between the Army, Police and civil popula tion.

Despite the efforts of 20,000 troops, pollee and home guaris the Mau Mau torror was growing. Apart from the appointment of a Supreme Commander with un- trammelled authority to stamp out the menace, the European leader said these were two of the mensures urgently necessary.
