ASSURANCE Britain's Road Soviet Note REITERATED BY MR EDEN

London, Feb. 16.

The British Foreign Secretary, Mr Anthony Eden, reiterated today his recent assurance that British merchant ships on China seas engaged on lawful business would be accorded all protection by the British Navy.

1

He was replying to questions in the House of Commons regarding interference with British ships in the China seas from various sources.

Mr Eden said such interference had been at- tempted on 40 occasions during the last 18 months, but none of the incidents had involved vessels trading from the United Kingdom.

On five occasions the attackers were not identified and their attempts at interception were evaded.

Washington, Feb. 16.

President Eisenhower today took the first step toward implementing

his famous pledge in last year's election campaign not to "rest content"

until the Communist conquests made as a result of the Yalta agreements of 1945 no longer existed.

1

He discussed with Congressional leaders a resolution through which both the executive and legislative arms of

agreements whereby large parts of Eastern Europe and Asia were placed under Communist rule,

He said that no country held world peace more dearly than the state of Israel and he pledged his government's co-operation with any country in the world which remained true to the principles of international peace. At the same time, the Printe Ministar continued, Ireaci wa New York, Feb. 16.
