GLOOMY COMMENT ON PERSIA OUTLOOK
Washington, Feb. 9.
The State Department today dissociated it- self from a letter sent by Mr J. Rives Childs, re- tiring United States Ambassador to Ethiopia, that partition of Persia might be inevitable.
Mr Childs, for many years a State Depart- ment specialist on Near East affairs, said the United States faced the alternative of seeing the Russians take over all of Persia or "if we are suffi- ciently farsighted" only the northern half.
The statement was made in a letter to Mr Henry By:onde, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern, South Asian and African Affairs.

Britain To Pus Ahead With Scheme To Unite Rhodesias
London, Feb. 9.
The conference of the Central African Federa- tion, which started in London last month, has ended and it now appears certain that Britain in- tends to push ahead with the scheme to unite Northern and Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland despite the objections of some 4,000,000 Africans.
The chief delegates to the conference the Commonwealth Relations Secretary, Lard Swin- too, the Colonial Secretary, Mr Oliver Lyttelton, the Rhodes's Prime Minister, Sir Souther
Godfrey Huggins, the Northern Rhodisia Governor, Sir Gilbert Rennie, and Sir Geoffrey Colby, Governor of Nyasaland—signed the final draft of the Govern- mont's White Paper on Ladera- tion on January 20.
Omcial sources do not give any details of the final draft but as that it deals with all the practical besties — the aster- dependance of the three terri- totle economies, the advenage of Tadual Govermat antiq | Foder Judicial system.
