CAN ENGLAND BREAK THE SPELL?-SIX NEW CAPS IN WELSH RUGGER XV

*

By PETER LOVEGROVE

The annual Wales-England match is always one of the highlights of the Home Rugby Union season, but the clash at Cardiff Arms Park on January 17 has even more than usual interest, Wales were last year's Triple Crown winners, England runners-up-in the International table, and this encounter could very well decide the 1953 Championship.

It is the 58th meeting between the two countries. Though England have 27 victories to their credit in the series, four more than the Welshmen, they have lost the last four games, and indeed have to go back to 1947 for their last success. This, Incidentally, was at Cardiff, when Nim Hall, one of the two survivors of that XV, turned the scales with a brilliant dropped goal,

POTS AND PUTTS

By HENRY LONGHURST

It has long delighted me to compare the methods, hints, tips, short cuts, pitfalls and infallible "secrets" of golf with those of other games, and to note on the whola that there is little new under the sun, and that failure or success in the one spring from the same sources as in the

others.

Some recent New Year broadcasting enabled me to make such comparison in company with one who for a quarter of a century has excelled his fellows by a wider margin than any individual has excelled the rest of the work in any other game.
