NBA FOLLOWS THROUGH ON JOEY MAXIM WITH A VERBAL KNOCKOUT
Washington, Jan. 5.
Last month Archie Moore took away Joey Maxim's lightheavy- weight title on a decision. Today the National Boxing Association, In its quarterly ratings, followed through on Maxim with a verbal knockout.
Normally a Champion who gets llcked slips down a notch to become the No. 1 challenger. But, the NBA decided Maxim įчn't a logical contender at all.
It rates Harold Johnson of Pennsylvania and Harry Matthews of Washington as one-two behind Moore,

So Much Depends On Going To The Dogs
They are going to start building a new 20,000-capacity athletics track in Manchester in the New Year. I doubt if this red-hot item of 1953 news will create a sensation in Surbiton, a riot in Romford, or a breach of the peace in Purley-but it presents a facet of sport that some of our snootier gamesmen seem to regard with a delicate crinkling of their patrician noses.
For the money to build this Lancashire track comes from greyhound racing, a "spectator-sport” not always accorded its proper mead of appreciation by those who find no personal attraction in the intricacies of Trap One..

Chance For The Bright Boys On
S. American Tour
By W. CAPEL KIRBY & DAVID JACK
There'll be plenty of room for England "B" (for bright) boys on the close season international tour of Argentina and Chile. In addition to the present favoured XI there will be places in the party for seven ofhors—but there is a big question mark against the name of Sheffield Wednesday's young hendilner, Albert Quixail,
In a month's time, Quixall puts up RAMC flashes and, remembering the storm of abuse heaped on Whitehall officiala by indignant parents when cricketer Brian Close toured Australia, we don't think the Football Association will risk a similar outburst by selecting Quixall.
