Wants £100 A Player For Coronation Series

By ARCHIE QUICK

The Players' Union, as I exclusively forecast a fortnight ago, has acted in the matter of special Coronation matches next June. They have named a figure of £100 per game for any of their members who partici- pate-and the four clubs nominated to take part from England in the competition in Glasgow, Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Man- chester United, each have 100 per cent Players' Union membership.

The Coronation competition is evidently doomed to meet difficultles, for the - Football Association point out that they will be on tour in South America, and wilj want first choice of players from these four clubs, while the MCC have asked the FA not to promote any tournaments in England to overlap county cricket matches, Aadfall that were not enough, hit the sung of the winners match for the

So there you have the position of those that are in wanting to get out, and those left outside wanting to get in. The whole truth of the matter is that the scheme was hastily planned and nat given due consideration.

The Spurs would probably be without Eddle Bally and Alf Ramsey, and Lionel Smith, plus Milton and Roper, missing from the Arsenal ranks.

Bert Williams, Wolverhampton Wanderers' goalkeeper, is, it seems, the latest victim of the strange Soccer disease which, sooner or later,

Manchester United, too, might attacks most of the game's players. Capped 19 times for England, Bert have any, or all of Stan Pearson.
