Testimonial Presented

Against Conviction At Parade

And Sentence

A successful appeal against his conviction and sentence was made

by Nam Keng-wu, 46, ship watchman, of 205. Des Voeux Road, West, be- fore the Senior Puisne Judge, Mr Justice E. H. Williams,, in the Appeal Court this morning.

Nam was convicted and sentenced to three years' hard labour by Mr Poon Yan-hoi för unlawful possession of a dagger on October 14 last. Following submissions by Nam's Counsel and submissions in reply by Crown Counsel, his Lordship found there was insufficient evidhee to convict and quashed the conviction.

Also appealing with Nam wan Chu Chung-fai, 32, foki, of 220, Des Voeux Road, West. Chu pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced by Mr. Poon also to three years. The sentence was this morning reduced to three months, his Lordship remarking that the original term was manifestly excessive.

In reply. Mr Sarath sad that the The appellants were necused by Insp. Holmes that this 100k Crown CONC Wt that the weapon of having in their possession one place in the Inspector's absence was found in the office of the 161 dagger of 220, Des Voeux Road, and was only a report made to eppellant.
