The FA tour of South America next year is designed to show that English soccer is still the tops. But if we are to judge from events of the present season, it is as well now to face up to the disagreeable fact that even at this time and distance it appears doomed to failure.

England lacks players who can produce that extra bit in Internationals. The fighting spirit is missing. There were only about four players in the side which met Ireland who really got "stuck in." And at the end of the present season one wonders if their number will be even as high as that.

If Mr Avery Brundage has his way, the 1956 Olympic Games at Melbourne will not be as large as the 1952 Games at Helsinki.

HIGH SCORES IN DARTS LEAGUE

(By "BULLSEYE")

Section 1 of the San Miguel Brewery Darts League got off to a flying start on Friday lost.

The nominated doublo start rule about which there was a cortain amount of scepticism, is proving very popular and was most successful in the first of the Leogua games.

All the games were decided and not one resulted in a draw. The RAOC and RAF who fought hard for top place last season both won their games, but will be facing some opposi- tion from the Royal Engineers and the R.A. Station Mess who won their games 3-1.

We are pleased to see that the MPSC have д much more formidable team in the field

this

season and they appear to have done very well by beat- Ing the 3 Supply Depot 4-2 on their opponent's ground.

There were many high scores recorded, the highest being 154 scored by Sgt Mason of 72 LAA Regt R.A..

followed closely by Bat Horris of the RAF with 152.

No doubt this is only a start and we hope to havo many maximum scores before the enti of the season.
